One item per line. Paste a single spreadsheet column; commas and tabs remain part of an item.

How to use this tool

Paste one item per line in List A and List B. Choose whether to trim surrounding spaces or ignore letter case, then select Compare lists or press Ctrl/Command + Enter. Copy any result separately. Swap lists to reverse the comparison.

Good to know

Up to 200,000 characters and 10,000 lines per list. Blank or whitespace-only lines are always ignored. One list may be empty. Each result contains distinct items only. No CSV parsing, fuzzy matching, accent removal or Unicode normalization. Case-insensitive comparison uses JavaScript lowercase, not language-specific matching. Inputs are processed locally and never uploaded or saved.

Compare spreadsheet columns, names and inventory lists

For List A containing Apple, Banana, Apple and Cherry, and List B containing Banana, Date and Cherry, the shared items are Banana and Cherry. Only A contains Apple, only B contains Date, and the combined list contains four unique items. The repeated Apple is counted once. Use this workflow to check membership regardless of line order.

List comparison questions

How is this different from a text diff?

This tool checks whether items occur in each list, regardless of position. A text diff compares changes in sequence and is better for edited paragraphs or code.

What happens to repeated items?

Each result includes an item only once. The summary counts nonblank entries, distinct items and extra repeated entries removed from each input.

Which spelling and order are kept?

Results retain first-seen order. Shared and combined items use the first spelling in List A after optional trimming. New items from List B follow in the combined result.

Does ignoring case also ignore accents or spaces?

No. Lowercase matching treats Apple and apple as equal, but accents and internal spaces remain significant. Surrounding spaces are removed only when trimming is enabled.

Can I compare a list against an empty list?

Yes. All items from the populated list appear in its exclusive result and in the combined list. Both inputs empty produces a prompt instead.
