Characters are visible grapheme clusters, so a joined emoji or a letter with an accent can count as one character. The count without spaces excludes spaces, tabs, and line breaks. Paragraphs are separated by blank lines. Word and sentence boundaries use your browser’s language-aware segmentation; punctuation-only segments are not sentences. Abbreviations and unusual punctuation can affect sentence counts, so results may differ from a word processor. Reading time starts at 200 words per minute and rounds up; language, text difficulty, and individual pace affect actual time.
