Large text means at least 18 pt (24 CSS px), or 14 pt (about 18.67 CSS px) bold, or the equivalent size for CJK fonts. Passing a color check alone does not mean a page meets WCAG.

How to use this tool

Enter two HEX colors or use the color pickers. Results update as you edit. Review the ratio and separate normal-text and large-text checks. Swap colors to preview the reversed pair, or copy the report for your design notes.

Good to know

Checks opaque sRGB colors using the WCAG 2.2 relative-luminance formula. It does not inspect a website or certify accessibility. Transparency, gradients, images, font rendering and surrounding content need separate review. Results use the unrounded ratio; the displayed ratio is rounded to three decimals.

Color contrast questions

What contrast ratio does WCAG require?

For text, AA requires 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text. AAA requires 7:1 and 4.5:1 respectively. The table checks all four thresholds without rounding the calculation.

Why can a ratio near 4.5 fail?

A ratio below 4.5:1 fails normal-text AA even if a rounded display looks like 4.5. Use a little extra contrast rather than designing exactly at a threshold.

Can I check transparent colors or a whole website?

This tool compares two solid HEX colors. Use the final composited colors for transparency. Gradients and images may require testing multiple positions. This is not an automated website audit.

How can I improve a failing pair?

Make the lighter color lighter or the darker color darker, then review the updated result and preview. Avoid relying only on color to convey meaning.
